Crystal Rao is known as a Chinese child actress, started acting since the age of 4, and has already completed 2 movies and 4 tv series by the age of 17. She is signed under EasyEntertainment (北京壹心娱乐), one of the top 5 acting agencies in China, and worked in tv shows by iQIYI, Tencent and Youku, the top entertainment media companies in China. At the age of 10, she stood out against thousands during Mulan’s worldwide casting calls, and successfully got the role of Young Mulan in 2018, attending the premier in LA in 2020.
Apart from her acting role, she is also a student filmmaker, and works with her friends Jud Willmont and Nick Scott under Willmountain Films. They participated in the 48Hour Film Challenge for 3 consecutive years, winning into the global Filmapalooza festival, with awards like Best Film, Best Director, Best Producer, Audience’s Choice, Best Screenwriter etc. She was invited to be judge of the 48HFP Shanghai Sector in 2024. They also were invited into the Shanghai International Film Festival 48H Challenge in 2023, and won Best Director. She starred in their independent film Black Fog, which won awards from Hollywood IWAA International Film Festival, Chicago Horror Film Festival, Tokyo Horror Film Festival, and many more. Moreover, she has directed, screenwritten, starred, and produced her own student-produced short film Moments of Before, exploring the topics of memory and preservation.
